What is The Advocacy Underground?
The Advocacy Underground is more than a name. It’s a movement—a challenge to the systems that leave kids with disabilities on the outside looking in. An underground movement is about rising up when the world isn’t paying attention, speaking out when others stay silent, and fighting for what’s right even when it’s hard.
This movement is needed because far too often, kids with disabilities are pushed aside, left out, or told they don’t belong. Special education programs—often called “exceptional children’s programs”—are supposed to help, but they’re not always enough. The system wasn’t built for true inclusion. That’s where we come in.
The Challenges of Inclusive Education
Around the world, children with disabilities face barriers to getting an education alongside their non-disabled peers. They’re segregated into separate classrooms, given fewer opportunities, or told they can’t do what other kids can. But education is a basic human right. Every child deserves a chance to learn, grow, and be part of their community.
The barriers are real:
Schools that lack training and resources for inclusion.
Policies that focus on convenience instead of children’s needs.
Societies that don’t always see the value of kids with disabilities.
